REFUGEE  CAMP

Located within the Severus star cluster, the planet of Palladius is home to the Golden Crown Convent of the Imperial Sisters of Battle.  Charisius City, situated within the sandy Domitus Desert, is the hub of military operations on the planet’s Southern continent.  A feat of Imperial engineering, the city is literally supported by pillars that are sunk deep into the sand to be anchored on the underlying bedrock.  Charisius City accommodates three communication towers that are critical to the coordination of military operations within the region.  The city also contains two important relics.  The first relic is stored within the Vespasian Cathedral, which is located in the middle of the Gaius Memorial Graveyard, a cemetery where only the most valiant of Imperial warriors are interred.  The second relic is positioned within the Shrine of Suetonius, amid the flora of Praetorian Park.  With its lush vegetation, Praetorian Park forms a striking contrast to the surrounding sandy terrain.

A recent bombardment has devastated most of the buildings within Charisius City.  The Imperial Guard has been routed, but a few survivors are hiding in basements or skulking amid the rubble.  In addition to destroying enemy forces that have invaded the city, the Sisters of Battle are assigned the responsibility of finding the survivors and moving them to a refugee camp.  The refugee camp is an area enclosed with barbed wire that is directly adjacent to your deployment zone, where you will find a few civilians grouping.  Ork invaders have erected a similar area next to their deployment zone that they intend to use as a prison camp.

To play this mission according to the script, you will need to use an Imperial force consisting of the Sisters of Battle.  Do not use an Imperial Guard force.  Move as many Imperial Guard troops as possible to the refugee camp, but do not reinforce any of the Imperial Guard squads; reinforcing them will cause you to produce inaccurate results when measuring your mission success level.  In order to determine how well you do in this mission, a rating system has been devised.  Count the number of surviving Imperial Guardsmen within your refugee camp at the end of the game.  If you have no survivors within the refugee camp, your performance is reprehensible; you narrowly escape execution and are demoted to the position of a latrine orderly.  If 1-2 survivors are within the refugee camp, your performance is barely tolerable; you assume the rank of a corporal.  If 3-4 survivors are within the refugee camp, your performance is only marginally acceptable; you assume the rank of a sergeant.  If 5-6 survivors are within the refugee camp, your performance is unexceptional; you assume the rank of a master sergeant.  If 7-8 survivors are within the refugee camp, your performance is adequate; you assume the rank of a lieutenant.  If 9-10 survivors are within the refugee camp, your performance is above average; you assume the rank of a captain.  If 11-12 survivors are within the refugee camp, your performance is exemplary; you assume the rank of a major.  If 13-14 survivors are within the refugee camp, your performance is outstanding; you assume the rank of a colonel.  If 15 survivors are within the refugee camp, your performance is wonderful; you assume the rank of a general.  If all 16 Imperial Guardsmen are within the refugee camp, you are a military genius; you are promoted to the rank of supreme commander.

If you intend to play this map as scripted, you will need to use “fixed” starting positions.  Player 1 should use a Sisters of Battle army.  Player 2 should use an Ork army.  In addition to their normal initial deployment items, both players will additionally receive gun emplacements at the entrance to their refugee camp or prison camp, prospectively.  Player 1 will have 16 Imperial Guard survivors scattered about the map.  Player 2 will have several hidden minefields.  You may find that moving the guardsmen to the refugee camp is a more difficult task than it appears to be.

If you intend to play this map as scripted, you will need to use Apocalypse module version 1.19 or better.  The increased army size provided in the module is necessary to achieve the scripted objectives.  Install the module in accordance with the “Apocalypse Readme” file that is included in the download.

This map is designed for two players.  It is suitable for play against a live opponent or for a single player to fight against the computer AI.  It is designed so that you can use any combination of victory objectives desired.  Although scripted as a battle between the Sisters of Battle and Ork forces, the map is designed so that you can use any combination of armies you prefer.  The map is large, 512 x 512 in size.  The map contains a total of 2 relics, 3 critical locations, 8 slag deposits, and 25 strategic points.

YOUR  COMMENTS:

"This mission is unique and fun to play.  I was able to move a sufficient number of guardsmen to the refugee camp to achieve the rank of general without much difficulty; however, this left me with fewer troops than usual to use in fighting the Orks.  Winning the game was more difficult than it appears.  I love urban maps, and I like the way that this map is laid out to channel the movement flow of troops, although this can be bypassed when using troops that have jump packs or teleporters.  The detail of the map is awesome.  This is a great-looking city.  The Preacher is designing a high quality set of maps."
