Elevated above the lower cloud-line, Pegasus Plateau is
located high atop Mount Icarus. In ancient times, a castle stood on the
plateau. By land, the plateau was only accessible across a bridge
connecting the location to an adjacent mountain with a single narrow path
leading down through a cavern. Due to the difficult accessibility, the
area was considered unassailable and unconquerable until the development
of modern technologies allowed troops to teleport or air-drop into the
area. The Tau were the first to actually colonize this region.
Approximately 3,000 years ago, they built a city on Pegasus Plateau,
which they called Tau Tzar Shen (translation unknown). About 800 years
ago, the planet was conquered by the Imperium, and the city was renamed as
“Olympia.” Most of the structures within the city were replaced with
Imperial buildings, but any undamaged Tau structures were left intact.
The result is that the city is now a mixture of Imperial and Tau
architecture. Recently, the Imperium abandoned Olympia after it was
devastated by an orbital bombardment. Rumors of a hidden vault within a
Tau structure lying near the summit of Mount Icarus have brought renewed
interest to the area. The contents of the vault are yet unknown. Our
troops will deploy on the Pegasus Plateau to secure this region, thus
allowing us to explore its secrets.
This map introduces a couple of new features that I have
not previously used. First, I have placed clouds just outside the playing
area at a lower level than the plateau. This helps emphasize the extreme
elevation of the region. Second, the stairwells inside some of the
buildings lead, not only to higher floors, but also to a basement level.
These features can be seen in the screenshots.
This map is designed for up to 4 players. It is suitable
for team-play or for a free-for-all battle against live opponents. It is
also suitable for a single player to fight against the computer AI. The
map is scripted so that you can use any combination of armies you prefer,
and any combination of victory objectives desired. The map is large, 512
x 512 in size. The map contains a total of 4 relics, 5 critical
locations, 8 slag deposits, and 38 strategic points.
