Special Scenarios

Sparkling beneath the Sirian sun, the pure waters of Coral Bay stretch out like a crystal glass, bordered by the sands of Shale Beach.  Immediately South of the beach, Mount Allegiant rises like a giant tower over the landscape.  Crag City was built in tiers upon the side of the mountain.  A great feat of Imperial engineering, virtually every building in the city has its own subterranean parking garage, carved and hollowed out of the side of the mountain.  The wide streets of the city are famed for their beauty, the medians planted with stately trees, and massive statues placed in the intersections.  Running straight up the side of Mount Allegiant from its base to its peak, Highway 0101 has been dubbed as “Ascension Avenue” by the local residents.  Running alongside the base of the mountain, Highway 0201 is also known as “Beachside Boulevard.”   The citizens of Crag City have also given names to the other major streets of the city that run around the sides of the mountain.  Highway 0202 is called “Commerce Boulevard”; Highway 0203 is called “Broadway Boulevard”; Highway 0303 is called “Industrial Boulevard”; and Highway 0304 (which lies near the peak of the mountain) is named Bueno Vista Boulevard.  A reminder of the constant threat of war, miles of razorwire have been deployed along the length of Shale Beach to help defend the city from any invasion by sea.  It is now late autumn; the trees of Crag City have lost their leaves, and most of the foliage in the city has turned dark in color.

Following a recent skirmish that damaged a few of the buildings within Crag City, Librarian Lars Isador found himself in charge of an Imperial Guard garrison stationed there.  Four alien artifacts were brought to the city, each of which emanates psychic energy.  Eldar Farseer Elspice claimed that the relics were Eldar property, and she demanded their return.  After consulting with the Imperial Guard officers, Librarian Isador decided that surrendering the relics to the Eldar would be in the best interests of securing peace.  Immediately after he left the city to negotiate with Farseer Elspice, Inquisitor Ivan Toth entered Crag City.  The Inquisitor, infuriated that an Imperial officer would negotiate with aliens, branded Isador as an “evil librarian.”  Toth ordered the execution and hanging of the entire garrison, claiming that they were heretics and traitors for collaborating with the enemy.  The four relics have been placed within four cathedrals to be studied by the Adeptus Mechanicus under the supervision of the Adeptus Ministorum.  With the assistance of Colonel Carus Brom, Inquisitor Toth has ordered the deployment of fresh Imperial forces in the city.  Learning of the Inquisitor’s edicts, Librarian Isador realized that he could never return peaceably to Imperial service.  Consequently, the “evil librarian” has landed on Shale Beach with Farseer Elspice and a force of Eldar as his rereward.

This map is principally designed for team-play.  Players 1 and 2 (Imperial players deployed near the top of the mountain) are pitted against players 3 and 4 (Eldar players deployed on the beach).   If you intend to play this map as scripted, you will need to use “fixed” starting positions.  Player 1 should be either a Space Marine or Sisters of Battle army, and will start the game with Inquisitor Toth.  Player 2 should be an Imperial Guard army, and will start the game with Colonel Carus Brom.  Players 3 and 4 should be Eldar armies.  Player 3 will start the game with the “evil librarian” Isador, and player 4 with an Eldar Farseer.

This map is designed for up to 4 players.  Although created for team-play, the map can also be used in a free-for-all battle against live opponents.  It is also suitable for a single player to fight against the computer AI.  The map is large, 512 x 512 in size.  The map contains no critical locations, so it cannot be played with the “take and hold” victory objective; however, any combination of other victory objectives desired can be employed.  The map contains a total of 4 slag deposits, 4 relics, and 28 strategic points.
