The planet of Hephaestus Secundus is a volcanic world, primarily comprised of igneous rock.  The surface of the planet is covered with ash and powdered basalt.  Numerous volcanoes speckle the landscape, and strange alien rock formations are sprinkled across the terrain.  The most prominent feature on this world is Colossus Mountain, a snow-capped extinct volcano that towers high above the smaller volcanoes in the region.  Of the smaller volcanoes, a few are dormant, but most are active.  Troops operating on the surface of the planet have been warned to remain a safe distance away from the deadly lava flows.

The planes of the planet are also dotted with numerous craters.  Scientists affirm that the craters were formed when a volcano erupts, throwing enormous chunks of basalt high into the air.  These basalt rocks then crash back to the planetís surface, forming a crater when they strike the ground.

A few areas of the topography exhibit cracks in the earth with smoke venting from the fractures.  The earth in these areas is highly unstable, so building structures on this type of ground will not be possible.

The planet has little to offer in the way of mineral resources (represented by strategic locations), but it has an abundance of energy vents (represented by slag deposits).  Consequently, this world may have a great appeal to Necron players. Hephaestus Secundus is too dangerous and hostile an environment for general habitation, but the location of the planet makes it strategically vital as a military base.  The critical key to controlling the surface of the planet is to dominate Colossus Mountain.

This map is designed for up to 8 players.  It is suitable for team-play or for a free-for-all battle against live opponents.  It is also suitable for a single player to fight against the computer AI.  The map is suitable for any combination of armies you prefer.  The map is enormous, 1024 x 1024 in size, so it may take a long time to load.  If the mission runs in a sluggish manner, you may need to upgrade your system RAM and/or your video card.  The map is designed to use any combination of victory objectives desired.  The map contains a total of 5 critical locations, 8 relics, 72 slag deposits, and 48 strategic points.
