BATTLE  AT  SNAKE  RIVER

Snake River is so named because of the way that it twists and turns through the Valley of Vipers on our equatorial continent.  The river is too wide for troops with jump packs to leap across it, so soldiers must seek out the shallow fords across the river.  The river crossings have been marked by sandbags, which also form defensive positions.  The entire area is thick with jungle foliage.  The density of the jungles prohibits vehicles from traveling beneath the canopy, but infantry can make good use of the tropical cover.  Ancient ruins testify to the fact that nearly every major race in the galaxy has occupied this area at some point in history, but most signs of civilization have been swallowed by vines and vegetation.  Many venerated warriors have perished on this battlefield, leaving wargear and relics scattered throughout the region.  The races return to reclaim their lost prizes, but the valuables are now guarded by snakes and scorpions.

This map is designed for up to 6 players.  It is suitable for team-play or for a free-for-all battle against live opponents.  It is also suitable for a single player to fight against the computer AI.  It is designed so that you can use any combination of victory objectives desired, and any combination of armies you prefer.  The map is enormous, 1024 x 1024 in size, and contains a tremendous amount of detail, so it requires a long time to load.  If it runs a bit sluggishly on your computer, you may need to upgrade your RAM and/or your video card.  The map contains a total of 6 critical locations, 12 slag deposits, 12 relics, and 60 strategic points.

Each player begins the game with an area of space that is called a “zone.”  The zones may appear to be different in size, but each of them contains roughly the same amount of square acres.  The terrain sandwiches each zone between 2 other zones.  The natural boundary between each zone is delineated by a critical location.

Examination of each zone will reveal the type of race that formerly occupied the area.

  • Zone 1 contains an Imperial theme

  • Zone 2 contains a Necron theme

  • Zone 3 contains an Ork theme

  • Zone 4 contains a Chaos theme

  • Zone 5 contains an Eldar theme

  • Zone 6 contains a Tau theme

You do not have to play those particular armies in each of the corresponding zones, but you will find that the zone has been custom-designed to better facilitate the corresponding army (a Space Marine, Sisters of Battle, or Imperial Guard army in an Imperial themed zone, a Necron army in a Necron themed zone, etc.).  If you intend to play this map with the armies that correspond to the customized zones, you will need to use “fixed” starting positions.  This means that player 1 will be an Imperial force, player 2 a Necron force, etc.

Tactical Note:  Infantry units can move through the jungle.  Vehicles are restricted to movement along the jungle paths and clearings.  It will be difficult to see units once they are under the jungle canopy, so be sure to hot key your forces before moving them.
